What are the maximum working hours for a domestic worker in Qatar?

Last updated 7/5/20260 viewsProvisional

Domestic workers in Qatar may not work more than 10 hours per day, excluding rest and meal breaks, under Article 12 of the Domestic Workers Law.

Article 12 of Qatar's Domestic Workers Law (Law No. 15 of 2017) sets the maximum working hours for a domestic worker at 10 hours per day. These hours must be interrupted by adequate breaks for rest, meals, and worship — and those break periods do not count toward the 10-hour limit.

It is possible for an employer and worker to agree in writing to different working hour arrangements, but any such agreement should be clearly documented in the employment contract. Regardless of any agreement, workers must still receive their weekly rest entitlement of at least 24 consecutive hours, as guaranteed by Article 13.

As an employer, requiring a domestic worker to work excessive hours without rest or compensation is a breach of the law. If you are unsure whether your current arrangements comply, review the worker's contract and daily schedule. Violations are penalisable by fines of up to 5,000 Qatari Riyals under Article 21.
