If you are visiting Qatar as a tourist or your vehicle is simply passing through the country in transit, you are exempt from the standard Qatar vehicle registration requirements, provided your vehicle carries a valid license issued by your home country. This exemption is clearly stated in Article 10 of the Qatar Traffic Law.
This means you do not need to go through the full local registration process for a short visit, as long as your home-country plates and registration documents are valid and current. However, it is advisable to carry all original vehicle documents with you at all times, as traffic police may request them.
Keep in mind this exemption applies specifically to tourists and transit vehicles. If you take up residency in Qatar, you will be expected to register your vehicle locally in accordance with Articles 2–8 of the Traffic Law and comply with all local licensing requirements.
