A Qatar Commercial Registry entry is initially valid for one year from the date of registration. However, under Article 5 of Law No. 25 of 2005, you can renew for a maximum of five years at a time — meaning you do not necessarily have to renew every single year if you prefer longer-term certainty. Renewal is calculated from the date of the original registration or from the date of the last renewal.
To renew, you must submit a renewal application through the Ministry's relevant department before your current registration expires. Allowing your registration to lapse while continuing to trade would put you in breach of Article 7, which prohibits trading without a valid registry entry. Fees for renewal are set by a Ministerial resolution as outlined in Article 14.
As a practical tip, set a reminder well in advance of your expiry date — at least 30 days before — to avoid any gap in your registration status. Many expat business owners find it convenient to opt for a multi-year renewal to reduce administrative overhead. Always keep your renewal receipt and updated registration certificate on hand, as you are required by Article 6 to display your registration number on your business premises and all official correspondence.
